What's new in Campaign Owl

Everything we've shipped, in reverse order. Built by a PPC specialist with 18 years of agency experience — every feature comes from a real-world frustration.

Investigator: 6-month comparisons + CSV download · weekday-only budget pacing

  • The Performance Investigator can now compare the last 6 months against the prior 6 months — and a fix along the way: the 90-day option was silently capped at 60 days server-side; it now runs the full 90.
  • Download the whole diagnosis as a client-ready PDF: every metric (including CPA/CR/CTR/CPC) across current, prior and last-year windows, the findings, and the campaign movers — white-label branding respected.
  • Budget Pacing: a Days toggle per account switches Mon–Fri-only campaigns to weekday pacing — days remaining count only weekdays and the run rate divides by serving days. The Tasks daily target uses the same setting.

Investigator: pick your own KPI tiles

  • The Performance Investigator's metric tiles are now customisable — click "Customise metrics" and choose from Spend, Revenue, Conv, CPA, CR, CTR, CPC, Clicks and Impressions (2–6 tiles).
  • Perfect for lead gen: drop Revenue, add CPA and CR. Your choice is remembered on this device.
  • CPA and CPC deltas colour the right way round — a falling CPA shows green.

Dashboard table: CPA + conversion rate columns, sorting fixed in MCC view

  • The accounts table now shows 30-day CPA and conversion rate alongside spend, conversions and ROAS — both sortable.
  • Sorting and search now work in the "By MCC" view too: MCC groups order by their totals, accounts sort inside each group, and searching finds accounts inside collapsed groups (they expand automatically).
  • Thanks to a sharp-eyed trial user for both suggestions.

Forgot password — self-serve reset from the sign-in page

  • The sign-in page now has "Forgot your password?" — enter your email and you'll get a reset link that walks you through setting a new one. No more emailing support to get back in.

GTM auto-setup (beta) — Campaign Owl writes the tags for you

  • The container generator can now skip the download-and-import: connect Google Tag Manager, pick a container, and Campaign Owl creates the tags and triggers directly via the GTM API — always in a brand-new workspace, additive only, with a preview of exactly what will be created before anything happens.
  • Nothing goes live by itself: the flow stops at "version created" for you to review, and publishing sits behind its own confirmation (or do it in GTM as usual). GTM's version history remains your rollback.
  • Off by default — enable GTM write access in the flow (workspace owner only), and the Google permission is separate from your Google Ads connection and revocable any time.

Copilot on every account page

  • Each account page now has an "Ask Copilot" button next to Run Audit. Questions asked there default to that account — "What should I fix first?", "How has spend trended?" — no need to name the account each time.
  • Copilot answers now render properly formatted — bold, bullets and code — instead of raw text.
New

Budgets — cross-account budget pacing at a glance

  • New Budgets page in the sidebar: every account with a monthly budget, showing month-to-date spend, pace vs where you should be today, and a projected month-end figure based on the last 7 days' run-rate.
  • Over-pacing and under-pacing accounts float to the top, so the accounts most likely to blow (or waste) their budget are the first thing you see.
  • Totals are shown per currency — pounds, euros, dollars and kroner are never blended into one misleading number.
Open Budgets
New

Wasted-spend patterns in the Search Terms table

  • The search terms table on each account page now has a "Wasted-spend patterns" panel: every term is broken into 1, 2 and 3-word fragments so recurring money-burners ("free", "jobs", "near me") show up as one line with their combined non-converting spend.
  • Click any pattern to filter the table to the terms containing it — then export negatives as usual.
New

PPC Copilot — ask your accounts anything, right on the Dashboard

  • New on the Dashboard: "Ask your accounts anything". Type a question — "Which accounts need attention today?", "Any anomalies this week?", "How did spend change on Account X?" — and get an answer built from your live audit findings, daily metrics and anomaly data.
  • It only ever answers from your real data — no invented numbers — and it's strictly read-only: it can't change anything in Google Ads.
  • Money stays honest: accounts are quoted in their own currency, never blended.

Smarter mornings: audit digest shows what's new, anomaly alerts learn quiet accounts

  • The daily audit digest now leads with findings that appeared overnight instead of re-listing everything, with a one-line portfolio total — and skips the email entirely on quiet days.
  • Anomaly alerts no longer flag paused or dormant accounts as "no fresh data" — an account that simply isn't spending is quiet, not broken.
  • Nightly audits now reliably cover every account, every night.
New

15 new Smart Bidding & measurement checks

  • The audit engine now understands bid strategies in depth: targets set without the conversion volume to support them, budgets too small to ever feed Smart Bidding, campaigns parked on Maximise Clicks, bid-target thrash, legacy device bid adjustments fighting automation, and Ad Rank erosion over 12 weeks.
  • Measurement checks too: lead conversions counting "Every" instead of "One per click", and tracking outages Smart Bidding silently learned from (with data-exclusion advice).
  • All built from 18 years of hands-on PPC lessons — each check explains why it matters and exactly what to change.

Ask Claude about your accounts — the first PPC tool with native MCP access

  • Campaign Owl is the first PPC management tool to ship a native MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. Connect Claude (Desktop, claude.ai or Claude Code) to your Campaign Owl data and ask questions in plain English: "which accounts have open fix-now findings?", "how did spend trend on Account X this month?", "any anomalies this week?"
  • Read-only by design — Claude can see health scores, findings, daily metrics, anomalies and score history for your workspace, and can never change anything or touch Google Ads itself.
  • Create an API key in Settings → Claude / MCP access — connection instructions for Claude Desktop and Claude Code are right there. Up to 5 named keys per workspace, revocable instantly.

Morning anomaly alerts — Campaign Owl now watches your accounts overnight

  • Every morning at 7:30, each account's yesterday is compared against its own typical day — same weekday, averaged over the trailing 8 weeks — so weekend dips and Tuesday spikes don't cause false alarms.
  • Six things are watched: spend spikes, spend collapses, conversions gone to zero, conversion drops, ads that stopped serving entirely, and accounts whose data has gone stale.
  • One digest email per workspace, sent to every team member — and only when something genuinely moved. Small accounts and normal wobble are filtered out by absolute thresholds, an ongoing issue is mentioned but not re-announced, and after a week it goes quiet (by then it's a project, not an alert).
  • Nothing to configure — it's on for every connected account now.

A fresh coat of paint — depth, warmth and motion across the whole app

  • New warm canvas with elevated cards throughout, subtle page transitions, health-score rings that draw in as they load, and polished dialogs — the same product, noticeably nicer to spend the day in.
  • The login and onboarding flow got the same treatment.

Growth: draft a client email, plus smarter Ad Rank advice for Performance Max & Smart Bidding

  • New "Draft a client email" on any account in Growth — turns the scale, Ad Rank and expansion opportunities into a warm, ready-to-send client email. Add the client's first name and yours, then edit and copy. It only ever uses the figures on screen — no invented numbers.
  • Ad Rank guidance is now tailored to the campaign type. Search gets the Quality Score / ad relevance / RSA steps; Shopping gets feed-based levers (product titles, attributes, pricing, target ROAS — no keywords or Quality Score); Performance Max gets asset strength, audience signals and target easing — instead of irrelevant keyword advice.
  • Bidding advice now covers Smart Bidding: when you can't raise manual bids, the target is the lever — ease a too-strict tCPA/tROAS or switch to Maximise Conversions, and keep conversion tracking solid.
  • Expand section now points you to the Account Builder to generate fresh campaigns for new services or themes straight from the website.

New Growth section — where to scale, and where to fix Ad Rank

  • New "Growth" tab in the sidebar. Pick an account and Campaign Owl shows where there's profitable room to grow over the last 30 days — internal guidance for you, the manager (separate from Client Comms, which is for client-facing emails).
  • Scale: converting campaigns losing impression share to budget, with a conservative "spend up to ~£X more → ~Y more conversions" estimate. Framed safely — measured increases (<20% steps), watch CPA, never a blind budget jump.
  • Ad Rank: campaigns losing impressions to rank rather than budget, with a step-by-step fix guide covering Quality Score components, ad strength, bids and assets.
  • Expand: campaign types and channels you're not using yet (single-channel reliance, no Performance Max, no remarketing) — surfaced as ideas to test, never blind prescriptions.
  • Toggle to "All accounts" to scan your whole portfolio at once and rank the biggest scaling and Ad Rank opportunities across every account.
  • Works for every connected account, in the account's own currency.

Tracking: generate a ready-to-import GTM container

  • New on each account's Tracking page — "Generate a ready-to-import container". Pick your key conversions (contact form, phone/email click, newsletter, download, purchase, booking, demo) and Campaign Owl builds a complete GTM container: Conversion Linker, GA4 event tags, and Google Ads conversion tags, each with the right trigger wired up.
  • It reads your account's existing Google Ads conversion actions and wires the real Conversion ID + label into every tag. For conversions that don't exist yet, it drops in a placeholder and tells you exactly which actions to create first.
  • Download the JSON, import it in GTM (Admin → Import Container → Merge, never Overwrite), preview, and publish. Campaign Owl never touches your live container — you stay in full control.

Dashboard & Investigator now respect each account's own currency — plus split movers and reliable all-account sync

  • Multi-currency fix: accounts that bill in euros (or any non-GBP currency) now show spend, revenue and CPA in their real currency — € stays €, £ stays £ — across the Dashboard tiles, the biggest-movers lists, the Performance Investigator, and the client-facing shared reports. Previously everything was forced into £.
  • "Biggest movers" is now split into two side-by-side columns — Improving and Declining — showing up to 10 accounts each (was a single combined list of 5), so your wins and your problems are both visible at a glance.
  • Reliable overnight sync: a chaining bug meant only the first 50 accounts refreshed each night. Now every account in the workspace syncs, however many you manage.
  • Fixed Google Ads account connection failing after Google retired an older version of their API.

Client Comms: three more questions — impressions/clicks, CPC, and competitors

  • "Why are impressions or clicks down?" — per-campaign reach attribution: which campaigns lost visibility, and whether it's a budget cap or an Ad Rank / competition problem.
  • "Why has CPC gone up?" — per-campaign cost-per-click attribution: which campaigns drove the rise, and whether it's competition / Ad Rank, a deliberate bid change, or a CTR slip.
  • "What are competitors doing?" — upload your Google Ads Auction Insights export (one file, or two from different periods to see the shift) and Campaign Owl writes the competitive landscape: who you're up against, who's outranking you, and how impression share and position have moved. Includes export instructions in case you're not sure where to find the file.

Client Comms: "Why are conversions down?"

  • New question type for the dreaded "why has it dropped?" client email. Per-campaign drop attribution — which campaigns drove the fall, what changed, what impression share was lost — written in plain, client-ready prose and backed entirely by live account data (never invented numbers).

Client Comms — agency-ready written answers to client questions, backed by live data

  • A whole new section (Client Comms in the sidebar) that drafts the email you'd send a client, grounded in their live Google Ads data and recent change history. Every figure traces back to real data — the AI is never allowed to invent a number.
  • Launches with "What's changed recently?" — a clean timeline of campaign launches, budget shifts, bid-strategy changes and experiments over the period, ending with a plain-English "what this means for the next few weeks".
  • Pick the reporting period and what to compare against (previous period, same period last year, or both), and how much detail to include — high-priority changes only, smaller changes too, or every tiny tweak.
  • Three tone modes: Standard (balanced), Reassuring (softens declines — good when a client's nervous), and Celebratory (leans into the wins).
  • Set each account's "signals" once (the business context that shapes the writing), add optional trigger context ("client asked about the CPA bump on Wednesday") and the recipient's first name. Every response is fully editable, with copy-subject / copy-body / copy-all buttons, save-as-draft, and mark-as-sent. History keeps every past response per account.

Audit page overhaul — severity scoring, account-specific impact, share-with-client, run diffs, cross-account priorities

  • Every finding now has a 0–100 severity score (combines tier, monthly £ at risk, days open, blast radius) — shown as a tier-coloured circle in the findings sidebar so you can triage by impact, not just category.
  • 30+ findings now show "~£N/mo at risk" inline and account-specific impact prose ("These 4 pages run in campaigns spending £2,890. A 20% lift = roughly £578/mo recovered.") instead of generic industry stats.
  • Click the health score ring to see a 90-day history chart with grade bands and finding-event markers.
  • "Since last run" diff: every audit shows how many findings opened, resolved, and persist vs the previous run.
  • Within-workspace peer benchmark below the score: "+5 pts above your 12 ecommerce accounts avg of 84".
  • Findings sidebar gets search (matches title, description, recommendation, AND every cell in the Affected Items tables) + bulk Mark Not Relevant / Restore.
  • "Create task" button on every finding drops the recommendation into your Tasks list with the right priority and account link.
  • New Account Triage view (agency + freelancer only): top 50 findings across all your accounts ranked by severity.
  • "Share with client" public link: generate a no-login URL, client opens it, sees a clean audit view. Revoke or regenerate any time.
  • Per-finding "Affected Items" tables replace the old bullet lists — sortable, scannable, deeper data.

Update

Google OAuth verification approved — no more 7-day reconnects

  • Campaign Owl is now a verified Google OAuth app. Refresh tokens for any account you connect from today onwards are long-lived — Google only revokes them on manual disconnect or 6+ months of inactivity.
  • No more weekly "Failed to refresh access token" cycles. Connect once and stay connected.
  • Existing accounts (connected before today) still have one final 7-day cycle on their old token. After your next reconnect, they switch to the long-lived behaviour permanently.
  • The "App not verified" warning that used to appear on the consent screen is gone too — same verified-publisher experience as any major SaaS tool.

Site scanner — "tell me what to track"

  • New entry into the tracking-setup wizard: enter your site URL and Campaign Owl crawls up to 50 pages with headless Chromium (renders SPAs properly).
  • Detects: contact / enquiry / newsletter forms, phone clicks (tel:), email clicks (mailto:), PDF / file downloads, ecommerce checkout pages, booking forms, demo-request forms.
  • Returns a checklist — tick what you want to track, click Add, and the wizard walks you through each one with exact GTM / Google Ads steps.
  • Falls back gracefully if a site is heavily JS-gated (forms behind login or modals) — you can switch to manual entry.

New

Get started checklist on the Dashboard

  • Small persistent card at the top of /dashboard tracks four core onboarding actions: connect a Google Ads account, run your first audit, complete a task, set up tracking. Each ticks itself off automatically as you complete it.
  • Auto-disappears once all four are done. Manually dismissable for power users via the X.

Guided tracking setup wizard — action-by-action

  • Brand-new wizard at /tracking/<account>/setup replaces the old static checklist. Pick what you want to track (contact form, phone clicks, purchases, downloads, newsletter signup, bookings, demos, custom) and walk through exact step-by-step setup for each.
  • Foundation stage runs first — auto-detects auto-tagging + Conversion Linker + GA4 Configuration so you don't set up individual conversions on broken plumbing.
  • Each action gets a method picker (Google Tag Manager — recommended, Google Ads tag direct, or GA4 import) with click-by-click instructions written for non-technical users.
  • "Check if tracking" button auto-verifies against your live Google Ads conversion actions — green tick when the action exists and has fired in the last 30 days.
  • Picker also lives on /tracking/setup-guide for the generic entry point. Site-scanner ("Scan my site & tell me what's trackable") coming next.

Tasks: snooze a full account for 1-3 days

  • New Moon-icon dropdown in each account row on Tasks: snooze for 1, 2, 3 days, until Monday, or pick a date. Hides the account entirely from Today + budget pacing.
  • "N accounts snoozed" indigo bar shows what's hidden + one-click Unsnooze. Findings/audits keep running — only Today is affected.
  • Smart return: snoozing pushes today's tasks to the chosen return day, even if that day isn't the account's normal rota weekday. So "snooze 1 day" really means "do these tomorrow", not "wait for next Wednesday".
  • Day preview (clicking future days in the This Week strip) shows snoozed accounts with a "Back from snooze" badge so you see them returning even on non-rota days.

Tracking audit redesigned + 4 new checks

  • Per-account tracking page restructured: status header with Re-run audit button, 9-area health grid (auto-tagging / conversion actions / primary goal / Goals biddable / Smart Bidding ready / tag firing / business-type / GA4 / GTM container), then issues to fix, then GTM upload card. Click any failing area to jump to the matching finding.
  • New check: Google Ads Goals — flags accounts with no biddable account-default goal, and campaigns using "Use different conversion goals for this campaign" override (a common cause of "why isn't this campaign bidding for my main goal?").
  • New check: Tags went quiet — flags conversion actions that fired between 31-90 days ago but have been silent in the last 30 days. Catches tags broken by a recent site/GTM change before you wonder where the conversions went.
  • New check: Likely-duplicate conversions with similar names across different categories — catches "Lead" + "Submitted Lead Form" tracking the same form via different paths.
  • GTM container audit now recognises the newer "gclidw" tag type as Conversion Linker (was wrongly flagging modern containers as missing it).

Better

Tasks: calendar dates instead of "X ago"

  • "Last done" now shows an actual date ("Last done: 14 Apr") instead of relative text. Calendar dates are easier to scan when comparing tasks across accounts.
  • For tasks that have never been completed, "Never" now reads "Never — due from 5 Apr" so you can see how long it's been waiting.

New-version reload prompt

  • Small bottom-right banner appears when a new deploy lands while you have a tab open — one-click reload picks up the latest changes without you having to chase down weird stale-render issues. Closes the gap between us shipping a fix and you actually seeing it.

New

Tracking Audit — Google Ads + GTM diagnostic

  • New Tracking category added to the audit engine. Every audit now checks auto-tagging, Primary conversion actions, Smart-Bidding-vs-conversion-data mismatches, and GA4 linking — results appear in the Findings panel.
  • New /tracking page: pick an account, upload your exported GTM container JSON, and Campaign Owl runs a full container audit — Conversion Linker / Google Tag placement, broken triggers, dead-code tags, duplicate conversion firing.
  • Cross-references GTM conversion labels against live Google Ads conversion IDs. Flags pixels firing into the void + Google Ads conversions with no GTM tag firing them.
  • Built-in setup guide at /tracking/setup-guide walks through the 3 valid setup paths (GA4 import, GTM direct, gtag hardcoded) for fresh accounts.

New

Landing Page UX audit — 4 new checks beyond PageSpeed

  • Above-fold CTA detection — flags hero sections with no clear call-to-action. Uses two-stage matching (explicit button/CTA-class anchor, then verb+noun action text fallback).
  • Form friction — flags landing pages with more than 5 visible form fields. Each extra field beyond 4 costs roughly 4-7% of completions.
  • Vague CTA text — flags "Learn More" / "Click Here" / "Submit" style copy. Benefit-led verbs convert better.
  • Trust-signal scan — checks the first 6000 chars of body for reviews, testimonials, customer counts, awards, guarantees. Recommendations tailored to ecommerce vs lead-gen.

17 April 2026

New

Friendly URLs for accounts

  • Account pages now use readable slugs: /accounts/millies-cookies instead of /accounts/7f3a9c1b-8d4e-... Old UUID links auto-redirect to the slug URL.
  • Shareable links (and Vercel Analytics paths) read like real words, not database IDs.
  • Collision-safe: duplicate names get -2, -3 suffixes automatically.

16 April 2026

New

Launch readiness: Sentry, Analytics, self-serve billing, trial reminders

  • Error monitoring via Sentry (catches Vercel function errors in real time, emails on every new issue).
  • Vercel Analytics wired into the root layout — measures signup → activation → paid conversion.
  • Stripe Customer Portal for self-serve card updates, invoice downloads, cancellations, and plan switches.
  • Automatic welcome email on signup + "trial ends in 3 days" reminder before first charge.
  • Payment-failure webhook now emails the workspace owner with amount due + direct link to update their card.
New

Merchant Centre ID for Shopping campaigns in the Account Builder

  • Ecommerce builds now have a Merchant Centre ID field in the wizard — populates the "Merchant Identifier" column on Shopping campaign rows so the CSV imports linked to your product feed.
  • Without an MC ID entered, next_steps now includes a loud warning so you know to set it manually in Editor before import.

Manual Accounts — track clients before they connect Google Ads

  • Add accounts by name from the Tasks page — no OAuth needed. Assign tasks, notes, budgets, and planner weekdays immediately.
  • When the client later connects via Google Ads, Campaign Owl auto-links by account ID. All tasks, notes, and settings carry over seamlessly.
  • Manual accounts show a violet "Manual" badge and a "Connect to audit" prompt instead of Run Audit.

New

Budget Pacing — live daily budget recommendations

  • Accounts with a monthly budget set now show a "Budget Pacing" panel when you expand them in Tasks.
  • Three figures: remaining budget this month, recommended daily target, and 7-day average daily spend — with an increase/decrease instruction.
  • Pulls live data from Google Ads API on every page load so figures are always accurate.
Better

Compact task cards + weekly task timing fix

  • Account cards in the Tasks Today view are now single-row (roughly half the height). Name, badges, task count, and actions all on one line.
  • Fixed a timing bug where weekly tasks completed on Monday wouldn't resurface until the following Tuesday — now correctly shows on the next Monday.
  • Unmanaged accounts banner is now dismissable (X button, persists via localStorage).
Better

Unified branding — illustrated owl everywhere

  • Replaced the 🦉 emoji with the illustrated Campaign Owl logo across the entire app: sidebar, login, onboarding, error pages, PDF reports, and all email templates.
  • Now matches the Google OAuth verification screen and marketing site for consistent branding.
New

Admin dashboard

  • Internal /admin page showing audit runs, task completions, builds, AI calls and costs — all with today/week/month/all-time breakdowns.
  • Recent audit runs and AI calls with status, duration, tokens, and cost detail.

AI Account Builder — spin up a full Google Ads account in minutes

  • New /build wizard takes a structured brief about a client and generates a complete account: campaigns, ad groups, keywords, RSAs (with pinned headlines), sitelinks, callouts, snippets, audiences, PMax assets and negatives.
  • Exports as an Excel bundle with one sheet per Google Ads Editor import (Campaigns, Ad Groups, Keywords, Ads, Negatives, Sitelinks, Callouts, Snippets, Audiences) — drop straight into Editor.
  • Upload reference docs (briefs, brand guidelines, product catalogues) so Claude grounds the build in your real materials.

AI usage tracking + per-tier monthly caps

  • Every Claude call is now logged with token + cost detail. New /settings/usage page shows current month spend, per-feature breakdown, Account Builder runs vs your tier cap, and a recent activity log.
  • Account Builder runs are capped per calendar month: Starter 5 / Pro 30 / Agency 100 / Enterprise unlimited. Audit AI checks stay uncapped.

New

Account notes + time logging

  • Add free-form notes to any account: sale dates, external campaigns, "don't pause without asking", brand colours.
  • Notes show on the Tasks Today view as a sticky banner so the team never misses key context.
  • Log time spent per task (in minutes) when ticking it complete — feeds into the Activity Report and CSV exports for billing.
New

Bid stabilisation — the 28-day smart bidding rule

  • After fixing a bid/RSA/PMax finding, click "Mark as actioned" instead of "Not relevant".
  • Campaign Owl suppresses that recommendation for 28 days (14 for ads/PMax) so smart bidding can recalibrate.
  • No more bouncing your targets back and forth — protects performance and client trust.
New

Selective MCC import

  • Connect a manager (MCC) account → Campaign Owl now shows you the Account Picker instead of bulk-importing every sub-account.
  • Search, filter by status, and tick the accounts you actually manage. Only those count against your plan limit.
  • Revisit the picker any time from Settings → "Manage accounts" next to each MCC.
New

Drag-and-drop account priority on Tasks

  • Each account card on the Tasks Today view has a grip handle on the left.
  • Drag accounts to set your own priority order — work your top clients first.
  • Order persists across visits.
New

Tasks ↔ Audit findings linkage

  • Each due task with active audit findings now shows a red "X active findings from your audit →" badge that deep-links to the account.
  • Each finding shows "Part of your recurring task: [name]" with a link back to Tasks.
  • See immediately which routine tasks have real issues vs which are just routine.
New

Week Planner with clickable day cards

  • Assign each account to specific weekdays (one day, multiple days, or auto).
  • Workload-by-day card shows live counts; click any day to filter the account list to that day.
  • Unmanaged accounts are flagged prominently — assign them or hide them from Tasks.

Skip, snooze, and backdate tasks

  • "…" menu on every task: Skip this cycle, Snooze 1 day / 3 days / 1 week / 2 weeks, or "I already did this on…" with a date picker.
  • Skip records the cycle as skipped (not done) so the activity log stays honest.
  • Snooze defers the task until the date you choose without losing the schedule.
New

Tasks system launch — the spreadsheet replacement

  • 30+ standard PPC tasks tracked across every account on the right cadence: weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly, annually.
  • Today view shows what's due, organised by account, with templates that auto-tick when the audit data shows the work is done.
  • Add ad-hoc tasks for client requests with optional repeat schedules.
